Patriotism is the heart of this chapter. Many of the missions of nonprofit organizations supported by the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter, NSDAR, members involve patriotic endeavors. The chapter enjoyed personalizing the memory boxes for veterans who reside at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. Louis. The veteran residents provided photos and memorabilia to place in their memory boxes and Daughters created patriotic decorations corresponding to the branch in which the resident served.
The chapter strongly supports initiatives that care for those who are serving in the United States Armed Forces and their families. Some chapter member favorites are the holiday toy drive, book drives, school supply collections, special care packages, and gifts for the baby showers hosted by Veteran Affairs.
Veterans who served our country are also remembered and honored through chapter projects. The chapter actively promotes the sponsorship of wreaths for the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
Chapter projects support local nonprofit organizations that serve food pantries for active duty and veterans in need. Sleeping mats for homeless veterans are crocheted from plastic bags by the chapter’s plarn group and delivered to the Hope Recovery Center Veterans Affairs of St. Louis, Missouri. Socks and personal hygiene items have been collected by chapter members and delivered to organizations supporting veterans who may benefit from these types of donations. Cards with expressions of appreciation have also been shared with veterans, with well wishes for a bright future. Books and care packages have been assembled by chapter members for shipment to those serving throughout the world. These are but a few examples of how the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter, NSDAR, shares and spreads their love of country and those that serve, or have served, to protect our freedom.
