Education

Educational programs and resources are promoted to engage America’s youth in American history by supporting teachers with available grants, materials, and lessons. Area high school students are encouraged to enter chapter scholarship contests and if eligible, may be awarded a DAR Good Citizens Award. Chapter members work together to create Constitution Week materials and exhibits for local schools and libraries, and participate in Bells Across America with bell ringing on September 17 to honor the signing of the United States Constitution.

Sharing the Love of Learning

costumed presenter talks about cooking in a colonial kitchen

A chapter member developed a “Colonial Day/Colonial Kitchen” trunk show for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, where chapter volunteers visit the classroom in colonial costume, introducing them to the colonial kitchen.

DAR has many lesson plans, reviewed and approved by teachers, that are appropriate for a variety of audiences with minimal teacher adjustment for age differences. Lesson plans are available for pre-K through grade 12. Here is a link for more information on all NSDAR has to offer.
